  • OSU Team Camp- A total of 9 camp registration forms w/ payment were submitted. Consequently, we will not be attending OSU. I will shred the registration forms and checks for those who submitted paperwork unless you specifically request otherwise.
  • Team Practice Dates- The attendance at the first team contact day was roughly 30%. Consequently, Team Practice dates are suspended indefinetly until we ascertain if productive sessions can be held.

  • Open Nets- Due to the large # of players who communicated they were unable to attend this Tuesday, the session was canceled. Open Nets will be every Tuesday at 7:30 at Liberty Middle School until school starts beginning June 16 with all 3 Olentangy HS teams welcome.

  • Indidividual Shooting- Two goals are being kept on the practice field for inidividual use throughout the summer. Get out and use them!

  •

  • On Track- Since the State Championship games on Saturday, June 6th (hopefully you attended), players should have spent approximately 8 hours on stick work development. Have you worked 8 hours thus far this summer on becoming a better player? If you are behind in terms of logging hours, partner up and get busy.

  •

  • Team Meeting- We will meet after Open Fields on Tuesday, June 16 at approximately 8:45 to determine if we should attempt future team activities this summer. Players need to be aware of their summer work, family and travel schedules so that informed decisions can be made. The main thing is we want to hold productive sessions. We need to guard against holding a team session and having it be unproductive due to low attendance. If we continue to operate in that fashion, attendance will eventually drop off completely because nobody likes to waste their time. We will make things work and so it is important to see everyone Tuesday evening so that we can plan and coordinate together.

INDIVIDUAL PLAYER IMPROVEMENT PLAN

It is time for each player to evaluate their lacrosse experience and determine their level of commitment for the upcoming off-season.  Participation is not compulsory, but the clear intention of the program is to improve the individual skill sets for each player.

The collective efforts of each individual will have a significant impact upon the capabilities of the entire team.  Consequently, it is critical to acknowledge the direct correlation between the commitment level of individuals in the off season and the success of teams in the spring.

Players need to recognize that their non participation will impact the overall performance of the team in the upcoming season and it will impact their individual playing time in the future.

The overall goals of the summer training program are threefold:

1.         Provide players with an environment which fosters self improvement throughout the summer months.

2.         To prepare each player for the upcoming lacrosse season through individual and team oriented training.

3.         Instill a physical fitness component into the life of each player which will carry over into their adult life.

“Ability is what you are capable of doing.  Motivation determines what you do.  Attitude determines how well you do it.”    -L. Holtz

Goals without dedication are simply empty dreams.

                                                                               -John Wooden

Physical Fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.

Each individual player needs to prepare an:

INDIVIDUAL PLAYER IMPROVEMENT PLAN

Action Steps:

1. Review your individual Player Evaluation which outlines areas for improvement.  Each player will receive a written evaluation at the conclusion of the season. This evaluation should serve as the foundation for planning your Individual Player Improvement Plan summer training regime.

2. Formalize a time commitment plan where you block out set time for working on different skill sets throughout the summer.

3. Choose a training partner or small group where you commit to training together at common times.

4. Attend Open Nets which will be held each week in conjunction with all three Olentangy lacrosse programs.  Staff from each high school will rotate supervisory duties and players from all three schools are mixed together to create two teams.  Open Nets are set for Tuesday nights from 8:00 pm until dark and will begin Tuesday,June 2nd.  We will be at the same location as last summer- Liberty Middle School. There is no fee associated with participating in Open Nets.

5. Attend weight training three days per week throughout the summer.  Weight room hours will be posted in late May.  There is no fee associated with weight training.

6. Participate in our team summer contact days.  We are allowed 10 contact days beginning June 1 through July 31.  These limited contact days allow us to practice as a team and will incorporate the incoming freshman players.  We will practice as a team and coaching will occur at each practice. The dates & times for summer contact days are as follows.  No fee for participating.

Summer Drills

Orange Lacrosse

"Teams are made during the season; players are made in the off-season."

Stick Drills

Ground Balls- Picking up ball on run w/ left and right hand.  Concentrate on tucking ball away.

Roll Away- Drive one direction, plant foot, roll back opposite direction, and switch hands

Stationary Switches- Standing stationary, switch hands while tucking stick away on each rep.

Wall Ball- (find a brick wall at a local elementary school and “hit the wall” to improve mechanics)

Passing-           Stand 20 yards from wall, 3 sets of  50 left & right-concentrate on stick extension and stick pointed at target

Catching-        Stand 5 yards from wall, complete 3 sets of 50 left & right- catch ball next to ear

Long Passes- Not just for defenseman.  Practice cross field passes on the run.  Throw to a target

Shooting

Outside bouncers- On the run, set feet first, hands high, stick high, aim point is outside of crease

Outside High- On the run, set feet first, hands high, stick high, finish with stick on target

Inside Shooting- On the run, stick in tight, choke up, keep stick in front of body, place shot

Question Mark- Drive lane just outside of pipe, roll away, covering ground, quick release

Note- The best shooting practice incorporates a partner. Critique each other.  Shooting should be practiced on the move varying shooting planes. Repetitions should include outside shooting and inside shooting.  Practice must be done with both hands.  All these drills should be done on the run and at game speed.
